Marvel Comics Announces Star Wars: A New Legacy
Though not the most popular part of the franchise, Star Wars comics have long been a beloved part of the series for those most dedicated fans. Arguably the most famous Star Wars comic, and the comic that propelled other Star Wars comics to fame is Star Wars (2015). To celebrate the anniversary of this beloved comic and Star Wars comic books as a whole, Marvel is releasing a one-shot anthology comic titled Star Wars: A New Legacy.
The anthology will be released on January 29, 2025. The authors list includes some of the most influential and successful comic book authors of our time such as, Charles Soule, who is known for writing Daredevil and the Death of Wolverine, which inspired the film Logan; Jason Aaron, who was one of the lead writers for Star Wars (2015); and Kieron Gillen, the creator of Doctor Aphra who is known for his work on the Darth Vadar (2015) comics. The art team is led by Ramon Rosanas, who has worked extensively for the Marvel comics franchise and will definitely not disappoint.
Because it’s an anthology, there isn’t going to be one set story for the comic. Instead, it will consist of a bunch of small one-shots all written by different, beloved comic authors. Though we don’t know the plot of every single story in the anthology, Marvel teased some of the plots in their press release.
In the story written by Charles Soule, the empire’s most powerful elite from Darth Vader to Grand Moff Tarkin are gathered on Alderaan to honor Emperor Palpatine. Using this high profile event as a distraction, Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros stage a heist not knowing they are being trailed by Valance. On top of all that and unbeknownst to anyone, an ancient Sith Artifact could spoil the party for all involved!
If that was the only story involved in the anthology I would be excited; however there is so much more! Kieron Gillian is finally revealing the fate of the Scar Squadron, also known as Task Force 99. This elite group of stormtroopers were under Darth Vader’s personal command and were some of the deadliest threats the rebellion ever faced. However, up until now, we’ve never known the true fate of this legendary task force.
Fear not, Doctor Aphra fans; she is also getting her very own story in this anthology. Kieron Gillen is revisiting Aphra and Vader’s notoriously troubled yet beloved dynamic in his new story. We will once again be reunited with Aphra’s devious and deadly droid crew, 0-0-0, BT-1, and Krrsantan, as they all adventure once more on a mission with the Dark Lord himself.
Though those stories alone are enough content to drive a Star Wars fan into a frenzy, there is still more to come!! January 29th is sure to be an exciting day for all Star Wars fans.
