If you’re active in the Star Wars fandom you’ve probably heard a lot regarding the new Jedi Order film. If not you can read this article where we detailed everything we knew about the upcoming film.
The film will star Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the sequel trilogy, where she will be returning to her role and attempting to rebuild the Jedi order. Recently, a couple interviews have been done with Ridley regarding her involvement in the film. When speaking to AlloCiné she said:
“That was actually quite last minute. I was actually making my own film last year, and Kathy Kennedy said she wanted to have breakfast. And I thought we were just having breakfast. So there I was, having my breakfast, and she goes ‘Oh, by the way, we might do another one.’ And I’m like ‘Ok…’ So I thought about it for a little bit and once I knew what the story was and everything I knew it was something I really wanted to do. I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
In the interview Daisy seemed really excited about the film and the fact that it’s getting taken in a new direction. The film is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an academy award winning director known for her documentaries on womens’ oppression. She will be the first ever woman to direct a Star Wars film. Obaid-Chinoy actually recently released a statement saying “it's about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.
Lucasfilms choosing a director who is most notable for her documentary work has certainly been controversial, resulting in a lot of backlash. However, the franchise needs to be revitalized a bit and she is the person for the job. If Daisy Ridley is excited, I’m sure it’ll be great.
