Ahsoka Season 2 and Everything You Need to Know About the Mortis Gods

Ahsoka Season 2 and Everything You Need to Know About the Mortis Gods

Ahsoka ends with Baylan standing in front of statues on Peridea. The two full statues are the father and the son. The third statue should be the Daughter however it is missing its head so we can’t be sure.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Mortis Gods and how they may tie into Ahsoka season 2.

The Mortis Gods, also known as the Ones, embody the Force. The daughter represents the light side, the sun represents the dark side, and the Father represents the balance between the two.

They first appeared in Clone Wars season 3 episode 15 “Overlords.” The Father lured Anakin Skywalker(along with Ahsoka and Obi-Wan) to the planet Mortis, where he and his family resided. He believed Anakin to be the prophesized Chosen One who would destroy the Sith and also have the strength to maintain the balance between the light and dark sides of the force. Once on Mortis the Father asked Anakin to take his place on Mortis as the balance in the force and warned him of the inevitable future if he left.

Anakin refused, but before they could leave, the Son kidnapped Ahsoka. Then the Son attempted to kill the Father, but the Daughter jumped in front of him, sacrificing her life for his. However, the Daughter then used her powers to transfer her life essence to Ahsoka.

Anakin was briefly seduced by the dark side by the Son, but the Father then wiped Anakin’s memory. They all fought the Son together, and as a final stand, the Father stabbed himself with the Dagger of Mortis, sacrificing himself and the planet for the good of the wider galaxy, and allowing Anakin to kill the Son.

Everyone thought that to be the end of the Mortis Gods however, we see them depicted on the Wall of a Jedi Temple in Rebels. Ezra uses this temple and the power of the Mortis gods to enter the World between Worlds (which we also see in Ahsoka).

It’s unclear who the Mortis Gods are now. Some have speculated that Anakin is the new Father, given his immense power, the fact that he can access the World between worlds, and because the Father originally chose him as his predecessor. In addition, by sacrificing himself at the end of Return of the Jedi, Anakin did bring balance to the force.Similar to the Father, Anakin sacrificed his life to save his son. Many people also believe Ahsoka the Daughter as she was given the life force of the Daughter in clone wars and she often sees Morai, the owl who belonged to the Daughter. There have also been some rumors that Baylan is the Son, however that is more circumstantial evidence than anything.

So what does all this mean for Ahsoka season 2? It appears that the writers set up the Mortis Gods to be a big part of Baylan Skoll’s story, but with Ray Stevenson having recently passed away it’s unclear as to whether they’ll continue Baylan’s story. A second season of Ahsoka is not officially confirmed yet so we have yet to know whether or not these loose ends will be tied up, but hopefully they do as this story is too intriguing to leave alone.
