New Mace Windu Book takes a look at Qui-Gon's Past
Earlier this month a new Mace Windu book was announced!! Star Wars: Mace Windu The Glass Castle will be released on August 6th, 2024. The book is written by iconic Star Wars author Steven Barnes, known for his book The Cestus Deception. Given this writer’s intimate history with Star Wars I’m sure The Glass Castle will not disappoint.
The Glass Castle takes place immediately following the events of The Phantom Menace. In this book the purple lightsabered Jedi is tasked with completing Qui-Gon Jinn's final mission in the Outer Rim after his tragic end. He had left a message for Windu to be delivered in the event of Qui-Gon’s death. Windu and Qui-Gon were very close, both taking very unorthodox approaches to being a Jedi. Over the years they formed a close friendship and thus Qui-Gon trusted Windu with his biggest and final request.
Qui-Gon asks Windu to help the Outer Rim planet of Metagos, a desert planet whose surface had transformed entirely into glass after a violent solar flare, forcing the planet's population to migrate underground. Now rival gangs and clans work to control what limited resources Metagos has left.
When he was a young Jedi, Qui-Gon worked with the Sa’ad farming clan, protecting them from some of the planet’s bigger crime lords. The Sa’ad are known for their proficiency in the art of dream-weaving where their mind stays conscious during sleep in order for them to communicate with the wild creatures that surround them. Upon leaving, Qui-Gon vowed to return to help the Sa’ad clan should they ever need him, however, after his death that duty fell to Windu.
The Sa’ad’s leader, KinShan Nightbird, reached out to Windu, begging for the Jedi’s help in liberating Megatos from the gangs and crime lords that run it, threatening to completely eradicate her people’s way of life. It’s now up to Windu to go to Megatos and save the Sa’ad and its citizens.
