New Types of Lightsabers to be Featured in Star Wars: The Acoloyte
The highly anticipated Star Wars: Acolyte is set to premiere on June 4th. There are many things about the Acolyte to be excited about. For instance it takes place during the High Republic era of the Star Wars universe, something we haven’t seen at all in live action. It has an amazing, all Star cast. It received amazing reviews after its early premiere. However, the coolest thing that the Acolyte brings to Star Wars canon are new forms of Light Sabers.
For the first time in canon Star Wars we are seeing forms of lightsabers that are not just swords. In one of the promo videos we saw Vernestra Rwoh’s lightwhip. When first on screen it looks just like a normal purple lightsaber, however it then begins to extend, twirling around Rwoh’s head just like a whip right before the teaser cuts away. This new saber, called the lightwhip, is super exciting, opening up a whole new world of Jedi combat styles and fighting tactics to love action Star Wars.
The lightwhip isn’t the only new type of saber that the Acolyte brings to the table. We don’t know exactly what this new saber is yet. In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Leslye Headland, the creator of the Acolyte said,
“There was a lightsaber that I wanted to have work in a particular way. It’s not the lightwhip, it’s a different lightsaber, and when I brought it to the prop department, who have been making lightsabers for the sequels and for Solo and the other television shows, they told me, “You can’t do that, that’s not something that will work,” and I said “Please, if you guys, if you’ll just indulge me, it’s not something I’m ready to give up,” and these incredible craftsmen were able to make my dream come true for me.”
So even though we do not yet know what exactly this saber will be or how it will work, it’s certain to be exciting and will hopefully blow fans away just as much as the lightwhip has.
