Ewan McGregor Recieves Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
On September 15th Ewan McGregor, the actor best known for his role as Obi Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars franchise, was honored with the 2,798th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His star was placed next to that of Carrie Fisher, the actress who played Princess Leia.
McGregor has had a very long and successful acting career. He got started in 1994 acting in both Bill Forsyth's Being Human and Danny Boyle’s Shallow Grave. However, he didn’t receive international acclaim until he played heroin addict Mark Renton in Danny Boyle's Trainspotting in 1996. Following that success McGregor got cast as the beloved Obi Wan Kenobi and acted in the prequel series, between 1999 and 2005, later reprising his role for the 2022 series Kenobi. Some other notable credits for McGregor include Moulin Rouge, A Gentleman in Moscow, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, Raymond and Ray, Black Hawk Down, and Salmon Fishing In The Yemen. He was made an OBE in 2013 for services to drama and charity. He won an Emmy award in 2021 as well as a Golden Globe in 2018.
At the ceremony McGregor was introduced by his Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen who described him as "the best Jedi master anyone could've asked for" and "the coolest man on the planet.” Though Anakin would never describe Obi Wan as the best Jedi Master, it was beautiful and touching to hear it from Hayden Christensen.
McGregor delivered a touching and heartwarming acceptance speech saying, “I wanted to do this all my life, since I was a little boy, I wanted to be an actor. And I feel like that’s what I’m meant to do and I’m so blessed to be able to do it.”
