Everything We Know About The Acolyte

Many Star Wars fans have been eagerly awaiting the new Star Wars TV show The Acolyte. Here’s everything we know about the show so far!

The official synopsis of the show is as follows:

In “ Star Wars: The Acolyte,” an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….

The show takes place during the High Republic era, something never before seen in Disney’s Star Wars canon. Chronologically, the show will be set 100 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace meaning that most of the characters we know and love will not yet have been born. If you’re a big Star Wars fan you probably know at least a bit about the High Republic books, however only one character from that series, Vernestra Woh, will be showing up in the Acolyte.

The trailer, which was just released, gives us a bit more context for the plot of the show.  The trailer shows Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) teaching a gathering of younglings while an attacker named Mae (Amandla Stenberg) fights Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) in a bar. The trailer sets the stage for a story about some evil force attacking and killing Jedi across the galaxy. In the trailer we also see some cool easter eggs such as more yellow lightsabers, force based martial arts, and a Wookie Jedi.

Release Date and Streaming:

The Acolyte is set to be released June 4, 2024, over 4 years after the show was originally announced.  The first two episodes will be made available on June 4, with the remaining 6 episodes set to be released weekly. The show will be streaming internationally on Disney+.  This will mark the sixth live-action Star Wars series to premiere on Disney+ after The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka.

Creative Team:

Leslye Headland, best known for making Netflix’s Russian Doll, created the Acolyte. She is the writer, director, and showrunner. Kognada, known for his work on After Yang; Alex García López, known for his work on Daredevil; and Hanelle Culpepper, known for her work on Star Trek: Discovery, are other credited directors on the series. Michael Abels, who is known for his work on all three of Jordan Peele’s films, created the score.

Hopefully this got you excited for the Acolyte and be sure to stay tuned for more updates!
