New York Comic Con Wrap Up: Biggest Star Wars news from NYCC
New York Comic-Con is one of the biggest events of the year in the life of a dedicated fan, second only to San Diego Comic-Con. This year’s New York Comic Con just wrapped up and there’s a lot of exciting news to cover for those of us who couldn’t attend, so let’s get right into it. Here are the biggest announcements from New York Comic Con 2024.
General Grievous Graphic Novel
At their panel, the Dark Horse team revealed their newest Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories Graphic Novel and its cover! Hyperspace Stories: Grievous is the third of the Hyperspace Stories series and will follow the infamous General Grievous throughout all his nefarious adventures. Michael Moreci is the main writer for the story and though there has yet to be an artist revealed Michael Cho did the cover art, so it is likely he is also involved with the graphic novel art in some way.
Qui-Gon Jinn Graphic Novel
Yet another prequel character was getting some special attention in the Hyperspace series. Qui-Gon Jinn is getting his very own graphic novel! The story will take place during two time periods: during his time as a Padawan of Count Dooku, and during his time teaching a young Obi-Wan, with both of these stories somehow being connected by the mysterious entity known as the Brotherhood of the Ninth Door from the Phase II High Republic stories.
Bad Batch Prequel Comic
With many people upset about the ending of Star Wars: Bad Batch, it’s no surprise a Bad Batch comic is coming out. The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents will be a five-issue miniseries written by Michael Moreci and illustrated by Reese Hannigan. It will follow the beloved crew of the Bad Batch during the Clone Wars.
Jecki and Yord are Back!
Jacki Lon and Yord Fandar were probably the two most beloved characters in all of Star Wars: The Acolyte and we were all devastated to see them go. Luckily, they weren’t gone forever Tessa Gratton’s YA novel The Acolyte: the Crystal Crown. The book is set to be released on July 29, 2025, and will follow the iconic duo as they attempt to keep the citizens of a town safe after a coming-of-age ritual goes wrong.
New Hasbro Figurines
Hasbro has been known in the past to release some of the best Star Wars figurines and the reveals at NYCC do not disappoint. They revealed numerous new toys including six new Black Series figures featuring the characters from the upcoming Skeleton Crew, a Jod Na Nawood Vintage Collection figure, a Howler & Sabine Wren set, an Imperial Storm Trooper wearing Hoth battle gear, a Doctor Evazan figurine, and a Black Series Commander Cody.
New Jedi Knights Comic Series
The announcement of Star Wars: Jedi Knights was probably the most exciting reveal at NYCC. This new series, written by the legend Marc Guggenheim and produced by Marvel Comics, is set in the era before The Phantom Menace and features beloved Jedi such as Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Count Dooku, and Mace Windu, along with some new and never before seen faces. Each issue will follow two Jedi on a mission somewhere in the galaxy, with a larger threat tying the stories together. The first issue is set to be released in March 2025.
And that’s a wrap on this year’s New York Comic Con adventures! Following this weekend we have so many stories to look forward to as we eagerly await the release of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew this winter.
