Everything We Know about the Knights of the Old Republic Remake

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has been on the minds of any Star Wars video game fan since the announcement of the remake back in 2021. Though there has been no word of the remake since the teaser trailer back in 2021 and there is no official release date the game has yet to officially be canceled. However, the original trailer was delisted from the PlayStation youtube channel with no formal announcement. It is still unclear why they did this.

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was released back in 2003 and is widely considered to be one of the best RPGs of all time. The game is set thousands of years before the films and follows the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. The game was groundbreaking for its time and went on to inspire many modern, beloved RPGs.

The remake seeks to stay faithful to the original game while sprucing it up to be more appetizing to modern and younger audiences who may not be a big fan of the blocky 2003 graphics. The iconic completely open world gameplay probably won’t change as many of the creatives have spoken extensively about their desire to stay very faithful to the original. Because the remake is a console exclusive it will release on PC and Playstation first before eventually, after probably a few months, making its way to Xbox.

The business and bureaucracy aspect of the remake has been tricky to say the least. The game was originally set to be made by a company called Aspyr, the creators of the original game. In 2022 it was announced by Aspyr’s parent company the Embracer Group that they would be joined by Saber Interactive in making the game. Embracer assured fans that this was a good choice due to the sheer size and scale of this remake. However, later in 2022, Bloomberg announced that the remake had been delayed indefinitely due to conflicts within Aspyr. Not much is known about these conflicts however they did result in the art director and the creative director both getting fired. Many fans thought that was it for the game, however earlier this year Embracer released a financial statement for their company and listed Knights of the Old Republic among their titles in progress.
