Star Wars: The Acolyte has been Cancelled
The first two episodes of the Acolyte were wildly successful, garnering 4.8M views in their first day on Disney+ making them the biggest series premiere for Disney this year. However viewership plummeted after episode 2 and the show dropped off the charts entirely. The series finale is believed to have the lowest viewership of any live action Star Wars TV show to date. To put a cherry on top throughout its run the Acolyte was continuously bombarded with political hate due to the large number of BIPOC cast members. All that is to say it’s not a surprise Disney canceled the show, though it is a tragedy.
Due to the show’s failure it’ll probably be a long time before we see any more High Republic era shows, which is a shame because the High Republic is one of the most interesting times in Star Wars canon. Chances are we probably will not see Darth Plagueis in live action again after his teaser at the end of The Acolyte season 1.
Though we’ve lost the Acolyte there are still many Star Wars shows to look forward to such as Skeleton Crew, Ahsoka season 2, and Andor season 2.
