Everything We Know about the Maul: Shadow Lord TV Show
During this year’s Star Wars Celebration, it was revealed that Sam Witwer, the voice actor for Darth Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, would be returning to the animated screen for the upcoming show, Maul: Shadow Lord. According to Witwer, the show is currently in production and is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2026. This is the first ever piece of recorded media that will exclusively follow the fan favorite Sith since his introduction in The Phantom Menace.
Not much is known about Maul: Shadow Lord other than it will take place exactly one year after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. For those who don’t recall, at the end of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano had captured Maul after the Siege of Mandalore and planned on taking him back to Coruscant to be tried by the Republic. However, Order 66 foiled these plans, and to save herself, Tano released Maul into the galaxy. The next time Maul appears in canon was for a brief cameo at the end of the Solo movie, where he gives orders to Qi-ra, who is revealed to be working for Maul's syndicate, suggesting that there was a point where he was quite powerful in the criminal underworld. However, we never got to see that power as the next time Maul appears is in Star Wars: Rebels, where he is a broken man wandering the galaxy, desperately trying to seize power in any way he can. Eventually, Maul reached his demise at the end of Rebels, in one of the best fights in Star Wars history.
Given that timeline, it’s clear (and has been officially confirmed) that the show will follow Maul’s journey to bring his Crime Syndicate to power sometime in the years between the Clone Wars and Rebels. Exactly how Maul will seize power, we cannot be certain; however, this gives us a lot to look forward to.
