Dave Filoni Promoted to Cheif Creative Officer of Lucasfilms
On November 22nd Dave Filoni was promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilms. Filoni’s work has basically defined modern Star Wars so his promotion is very welcome.
Foloni started working for Lucasfilms in 2008 as director of the Clone Wars movie and later the tv show. He then went on to be the executive producer of Star Wars Rebels. He was also the supervising director of the show for its first two seasons before handing that position off to Justin Ridge. Foloni gave up his position as supervising director to become the overseer of all future and current Lucasfilm Animation projects. He did end up returning as director for season 4. In 2019 Jon Faveau invited Foloni to help him create the Mandalorian. After that Foloni’s work became intertwined with the Mandoverse. He has now worked on the Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. He will also be directing the new Mandoverse film. In 2020 Foloni was quietly promoted to executive producer and executive creative director for the studio. His promotion was not announced to the public until Lucasfilms updated their list of their executives in May 2021.
Now, in November 2023, Filoni has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer. Filoni told Vanity Fair he’ll now be involved “at the inception” of everything that happens in the franchise. He’ll still keep his current titles in Lucasfilms and his director role on the Mandoverse film, which was a relief to me as I’m not sure what the Mandoverse would be without Foloni’s creative influence. It’s exciting to think about where Foloni will take Star Wars in the future, after the conclusion of the mandoverse. Wherever he takes it, I’m sure it will be wonderful.
